Wimbledon 2026: Emma Raducanu pulls out through injury

Concerns regarding the physical condition of the British top-ranked player have intensified over the last week. On Wednesday, Raducanu was seen sporting a protective boot, and she subsequently missed training sessions on both Thursday and Friday due to what is suspected to be an issue with her shin.

The 2021 US Open winner made a return to practice on Saturday to assess her recovery. Wearing supportive strapping around her lower right leg, she participated in a gentle, hour-long workout alongside her team. However, during a later session that day with Russian player Anna Kalinskaya, Raducanu ended the practice early, stopping about ten minutes before it was scheduled to finish after completing one set.

There were encouraging signs during her Sunday morning training session. Raducanu appeared a bit more confident, especially when applying pressure with her right leg on the forehand side while working with hitting partner Alexis Canter, although this session did not demand as much movement compared to the one with Kalinskaya earlier.

Speaking to the press later that day, Raducanu expressed her determination to compete at Wimbledon despite the injury. “Playing at Wimbledon, in front of a home crowd, means everything to me, so this is really difficult to process,” she said, indicating her willingness to take risks to be present at the All England Club
