Comedian Russell Howard has shared the heartbreaking news that his infant son, Felix, passed away earlier this year shortly after birth. In a heartfelt statement, Howard revealed that he and his wife, Cerys, endured what he described as “unimaginable heartache,” referring to their experience as “the most devastating time of our lives.”
During this difficult period, Howard expressed deep gratitude for the “extraordinary compassion, kindness and humanity” shown by the hospital staff who supported them following Felix’s death. The family was provided with a cool cot, allowing them to spend precious moments holding and speaking to their son. Howard reflected on these hours as some of their most cherished memories.
Alongside recounting their loss, Howard announced the creation of The Felix Foundation, a new charity established in their son’s memory. The foundation aims to offer support to families coping with miscarriage, premature birth, stillbirth, neonatal death, and bereavement. To raise funds, Howard and his wife plan to host a comedy fundraiser event called the Stand-Up Gala next February at London’s O2 Arena.
Several well-known comedians, including Michael McIntyre, Jimmy Carr, Aisling Bea, John Bishop, and Mo Gilligan, have committed to performing at the fundraiser without payment. Howard expressed his immense appreciation for their generosity. He and Cerys, who is an NHS doctor, have been together since 2004 and recently welcomed another son in August 2024. Currently, Howard continues to tour the UK with his stand-up show and recently completed a series of performances at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival
