Operations at Gatwick Airport were disrupted for nearly an hour after an aircraft became immobilized on the runway. According to a spokesperson from Gatwick, the runway closure on Friday afternoon was caused by a “technical issue with a departing vehicle.”
During the incident, the runway remained shut for approximately 50 minutes while the stranded plane was towed away. The airport resumed normal operations soon after. In response to the disruption, some inbound flights were redirected to alternative airports such as London Stansted and Birmingham.
Delays were reported for flights arriving at the West Sussex facility on Friday afternoon, with waiting times ranging from 20 minutes up to two hours. Gatwick emphasized that passenger safety and security continue to be their top priorities throughout the situation.
