Reports have emerged that the Los Angeles fire has destroyed the home of actor Sir Anthony Hopkins. The Welsh-born Hopkins, 87, posted a message on Instagram in support of those affected by the blaze, writing: “the only thing we take with us is the love we give.” The Pacific Palisades blaze – the largest currently in the area – has destroyed numerous properties and structures, with thousands of firefighters working to contain fires fuelled by strong winds. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have donated supplies to affected residents and also taken in friends and family who were forced to evacuate.
Other celebrities affected by the LA blaze include reality star Paris Hilton, actor Billy Crystal, songwriter Diane Warren, actor Cary Elwes, TV personality Ricki Lake, and reality TV stars Spencer Pratt and Heidi Montag. The fires have disrupted Hollywood’s awards season, with the Critics Choice Awards and Oscar nominations among a number of events subject to rescheduling.
The fire has presented a significant challenge for California’s emergency services, with some 10 people having lost their lives in wildfires across the state.
