The annual winter weather woes continue to plague northern Derbyshire, and gritting has been hindered as snowfall and freezing temperatures gripped the area. The problem has certainly not been helped by the approximately 200 cars parked up along parts of the Peak District, where double parking on Rushup Edge and Man Nick has prevented gritting crews from getting through.
Derbyshire County Council has issued a statement pleading with drivers and visitors to avoid adding to the problem on roads across the area. Their statement acknowledged the wish of people to enjoy the beauty of the Peak District, and yet stressed the high levels of parking is making it hard for the snow clearance teams to do their job.
The usual range of road closures across Derbyshire thereby continues to add to growing concerns and frustrations of locals and visitors alike. Roads no-go areas have included Goyts Lane near Buxton, Curbar lane, Curbar, Back Lane, Youlgrave, and Rylah Hill in Palterton.
Motorists have been advised not to travel in areas affected by snow if they are not properly equipped, and to take care even if they have 4×4 drive vehicles or snow chains. Repeated warnings have been issued to drivers to slow down and leave extra distance to allow safe stopping times and avoid collisions.
Police forces across the country have also been taking to social media to remind people to take the very necessary precautions when driving in wintery conditions, and to avoid unnecessary journeys if possible until the bad weather has passed
