Attempted abduction of girl, 3, in Wolverhampton

Police in the West Midlands have released CCTV footage of a man they want to question after an attempted abduction of a three-year-old girl in Wolverhampton. Authorities were alerted to the event at around 5:15 PM on Thursday, following reports that a man had tried to pick up and abduct the child while she was outside a resident’s home in Leicester Street. The mother of the girl stopped the man in his tracks and he subsequently made his getaway in the direction of Harrow Street.

Police have since identified a person of interest who they believe to be of mixed race, aged between their 20s and 30s, with brown eyes showing signs of reddening. The suspect is believed to have short curly dark hair and facial hair, standing at a height of approximately 5ft 9ins (175cm). Despite the incident, authorities are treating it as an isolated one.

Detective Inspector Nicola Pestel of Wolverhampton CID has urged those with information on the incident to come forward, and has called on members of the public to check any footage collected by doorbell or vehicle dashcam cameras for additional evidence. Officers have also been dispatched to the area to offer residents reassurance. This is an ongoing investigation, and police are working to trace and apprehend the person involved.

Parents in the area have been advised to remain vigilant and keep careful watch over their children when they are outside. As of yet, there have not been any further updates on the case.
