Fatboy Slim brings out Derry Girls cast members at club night in Derry

Fatboy Slim had a surprise in store for fans attending his show in Derry on Saturday, October 21. During his set at the Unit 8 Warehouse in the Pennyburn Industrial Estate, the DJ invited two cast members from the comedy series Derry Girls onstage with him. Saoirse-Monica Jackson, who plays Erin, and Jamie-Lee O’Donnell, who plays Michelle, danced beside Fatboy Slim behind the decks as rave horns sounded out.

The appearance marked a continuation of the connection between Fatboy Slim and Derry Girls, which culminated in the show’s final episode depicting the characters attending a Fatboy Slim gig in 1997, with his music featuring prominently. Sharing a clip of the Derry appearance on social media, the producer said “Life imitates art as the Derry girls join me onstage in Derry.”

Norman Cook, aka Fatboy Slim, has been touring to celebrate the 25th anniversary of his album ‘You’ve Come a Long Way, Baby’. The DJ played at Alexandra Palace earlier this year where he performed on what is said to be the world’s largest holographic stage. Discussing the album, Cook said: “I’m still surprised and gladdened by the response that ‘You’ve Come A Long Way, Baby’ has had. I didn’t see it going global, I thought it was a very ‘English’ sounding record. I definitely did not imagine people would still be talking about it 25 years later. I remember saying as much at the time! Thank you to everyone who has enjoyed it over the years.”
