Jil Sander has announced that Jeff Mills has been chosen to be the face of the fashion brand’s Fall-Winter 2023 campaign. In addition to showcasing Jil Sander’s latest fashion line in the campaign, Mills also appears in a short film discussing optimism within music and fashion and the subjects of the mid-1990s. The video, shot in Manchester, was filmed by Stephen Kidd and photographed by Chris Rhodes.
Mills, who has previously worked with Dior, has been DJ for the fashion brand’s runway show at the Pyramids of Giza in Egypt last year. He said in the documentary, “As I became interested in music, I was also really interested in fashion and to understand those who specialize in the various ways people can appear with things to wear as well as think and imagine society and the direction of it.” Mills also mentioned how he can translate his understanding of fashion, including shades, colors, and textures, into sound with music.
The creative directors of Jil Sander, Lucie, and Luke Meier, explain that the collection clashes genres, and it is a reflection of their desire to embrace openness and information exchange, to merge the archetypes of women’s and men’s wardrobes, and to create a true space of self-expression. For the campaign, Manchester’s reinvention through creativity and imagination is referenced with “the tools they have at their disposal. As Mills and his peers did in Detroit.”
