baile/baile, “Scotland’s most remote club night”, is launching in the Scottish Highlands

Ullapool, a remote Scottish Highlands village, is gearing up to debut its new winter club series called baile/baile on November 4. The seasonal club series is a four-party affair that aligns with winter and a day party in the summer is also in the works should its success be evident. Financing for the event has come from Ullapool Harbour Trust.

The inaugural event taking place at 100-capacity music hub and exhibition space the Ceilidh Place will headline a DJ each night who represents the north of Scotland. The launch event will feature Moray Leisure Centre, Corran, Miss Cabbage and Comrade Massie from Forres, Fort William, Tain and Aberdeenshire respectively.

The event’s name is derived from the Scottish Gaelic word baile, meaning “township/village,” and the Spanish word baile, meaning “a dance.” Founder Sigi Whittle, and resident DJ Jemima Fasakin, will perform each night along with two slots reserved for local artists who have never played in a club before.

In an interview with Press and Journal, Whittle stated the club was started in response to the lack of a nightlife scene in the Scottish Highlands. The region offers little variety for young individuals “to properly express themselves.” The event aims to bring vibrancy to the region, encouraging people to recognize the Scottish Highlands can and should be an exciting destination.
