Travis Scott’s phone will not be admissible in the Astroworld trial, according to his lawyer Steve Brody. The LA rapper was recently subjected to a deposition that spanned more than eight hours, in relation to the hundreds of lawsuits that have been filed after the 2021 Astroworld tragedy, where 10 people died and hundreds were injured. Rolling Stone reported that attorneys representing the plaintiffs had requested information from Travis Scott’s phone, his entity Global Inc., and Cactus Jack employees through an emergency motion, but this information has yet to be produced.
Earlier in the case, Scott and XX Global Inc., had refused to provide information from their phones on different grounds, stating that the request was “seeking confidential and/or sensitive information” and that the disclosure of said documents was “unreasonably cumulative or duplicative of other of the requests.” Ted Anastasiou, a representative for Travis Scott, stated that neither Scott nor his team were obstructing the case and that they had “nothing to hide and are cooperating with all ongoing civil legal proceedings.”
Scott’s legal team pointed the finger at the plaintiffs’ team, stating that the late provision of documents and rescheduled depositions were indicative of their lack of cooperation. Meanwhile, the plaintiffs’ team argued that they had provided documents while Scott’s team had not produced a single text, WeChat communication, video, or photo from their phones.
Despite the heated legal battle, Travis Scott recently announced an event safety initiative following the Astroworld tragedy. The rapper’s team has also offered to cover funeral expenses for those killed in the incident, although some families have declined the offer. As the trial regarding the Astroworld tragedy continues, it remains to be seen how the case will unravel and what implications it will have for the future of live music events
