A new documentary about legendary British DJ Tony De Vit is coming out

Don’t Ever Stop: Tony De Vit is a documentary that will be released next month to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the celebrated DJ’s tragic passing in 1998 due to HIV-related health complications. The feature-length film will premiere nationwide in the UK during Doc’n’Roll, which will run for nine days starting from October 26th across different cities. The documentary chronicles Tony De Vit’s journey from playing in local pubs at Kidderminster when he was 17 to becoming one of the country’s most respected DJs of his generation.

Tony De Vit’s rise to fame began in the Nightingale, a club in Birmingham, where he obtained his first residency when he was in his early twenties. Moreover, he worked at Beacon Radio and performed at Heaven, a famous London gay club frequented by the country’s most exciting DJs, where he played twice a month every Saturday and established himself as one of the top DJs in the nation.

Tony De Vit received critical acclaim for his hard-hitting house music in the mid-90s, and won BBC’s Essential Mix of the Year in 1995. In 1998, he released The Dawn on Tidy Trax, which is regarded as his finest production and appeared to be paving his way towards worldwide stardom before his untimely passing.

Don’t Ever Stop: Tony De Vit entwines love, loss, gay identity, stardom, and attitudes to AIDS, through the lens of the Birmingham-born DJ and producer. It combines archive footage with interviews with industry experts like Fergie, an accomplished De Vit prodigy, and Eats Everything, among others, to provide a comprehensive retrospective on the icon’s life and legacy.

Restless Films’ Phill Smith and Stuart Pollitt, both former BBC filmmakers, produced the documentary. It will premiere at the 10th edition of the BFI-supported Doc’n’Roll film festival’s headline event in late October. Additionally, Tidy Trax, the British label, has released ten new Tony De Vit remixes by celebrated producers such as Alan Fitzpatrick, Eats Everything, Hannah Laing, Nicolle Moudaber, and others, which fans can purchase on Beatport
