A drilling platform in the North Sea has lost four anchors due to the severe weather caused by Storm Babet, prompting helicopters to be sent to its location to assist. The semi-sub drilling platform, Stena Spey, is located 146 miles (235km) east of Aberdeen and all 89 personnel are accounted for.
Stena Drilling issued a statement indicating that the incident occurred at around 6:45 AM and that their ‘shore-based incident response team’ are co-ordinating with all relevant support services to minimize risk and resolve the situation. The HM Coastguard have sent two of their helicopters to provide valuable assistance to the drilling platform facing strong waves in the North Sea. A further update on this breaking news story is expected shortly.
