Scotland has been hit by Storm Babet, causing heavy rain, high winds and flooding to parts of the country. A second Met Office red warning was put in place in Angus and Aberdeenshire on Saturday, while some coastal areas saw spectacular scenes and some faced flooding clear-up after rivers burst their banks. One of the startling images is of Angus Council worker Gavin Stewart who made an unexpected catch of the day in Brechin. Rising water levels on the River Don in Kintore were a worry for Aberdeenshire Council as emergency services assisted with putting out sandbags in Canal Road, Inverurie. The weather is also causing problems for those who like to cycle or walk their dog in Inverurie. Meanwhile, back gardens in River Street in Brechin became swimming pools.
BBC Weather Watchers/Muddy Paws captured the stormy start to the day in Edinburgh as the waves crashed at Newhaven. Waves also gave tourists in St Abbs a spectacular show. A makeshift flood barrier was put up to keep the water out in Kintore, Aberdeenshire while a soggy seat by the River Don in Inverurie saw water levels rise.
Despite all the devastating weather, Angus and Aberdeenshire councils report that their teams are out dealing with the clear-up operation. Angus Council tweeted advice for those in the region and confirming that teams were out on site to manage any issues.
The Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) had about 30 flood warnings, mostly in north-east Scotland. SEPA said rivers in Aberdeenshire, Moray, Angus, Perth and Kinross, the Scottish Borders and Fife remained at high levels, with continued flooding expected as more heavy rain is forecast
