English electronic music duo, Underworld, have given fans an early Christmas present with the release of their new single, ‘Denver Luna’, along with an accompanying tie-dye inspired visualiser. The duo is known for their euphoric pads, relentless kick drums, and crashing hi-hats and their latest offering, an eight-minute track, certainly does not disappoint. Despite the fast tempo of 134 beats per minute, it still manages to take fans on a journey back to works such as Born Slippy (Nuxx), which shot Underworld to fame after being featured in Danny Boyle’s film Trainspotting. It’s little wonder then that it was voted the 4th best dance track ever by Mixmag readers in 2013.
‘Denver Luna’ is the second offering from the duo in 2023, with their first being the single ‘And the Colour Red’, which was released in April. Vinyl enthusiasts can choose between an acapella rendition, two official instrumentals, or all three songs on the official vinyl record as part of their recently launched Denver Luna Limited Drop, which was made available for purchase two days ago. Fans of the feisty duo have snatched up the limited edition vinyl, T-shirts, and watercolour paintings that are paired with the release, and they are all sold out.
Karl Hyde and Rick Smith, who make up Underworld, have teased their fans with two more songs, ‘Gene Pool’ and ‘Strawberry Hotel,’ during their live performances this year. The duo has graced the stages of some of the most popular music festivals this year, including Coachella, Secret Garden Party, Lowlands, Open’er, and Cala Mijas. They have yet to release a new full-length record since their 2019 album Drift Series 1, but concertgoers can catch their shows in Miami and Mexico City on December 8th and 9th, respectively. They will also play four consecutive gigs at Amsterdam’s Gashouder in Mid-March next year, and their flurry of new material suggests that an album may be in the works.
Despite their longevity, Underworld, who began their music careers in the 80s, shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon. Their latest offering, ‘Denver Luna’, is bustling with energy and is a continuation of their signature sound that fans have come to love. Fans can watch the visualiser and listen to the track on Youtube, and they will not be disappointed by the sheer sonic power they will experience
