The family of three-year-old Noah Woods has received an apology from an NHS trust following a breach of his medical records, which added “extra anguish” during their difficult time. Dr Martin Mansfield, deputy chief medical officer at East Suffolk and North Essex NHS Foundation Trust, described the unauthorized access to patient data as “completely unacceptable” and announced that an urgent investigation has been launched.
In a statement released by the trust, Dr Mansfield confirmed that immediate measures were taken to secure Noah’s records and to prevent any further unauthorized access that was not clinically justified. The trust also reported the incident to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) and assured Noah’s family that they will be kept informed as the inquiry continues. The trust further noted that disciplinary action would be pursued if deemed necessary.
Noah went missing on 15 September in the village of Brantham, Suffolk, prompting a significant search effort involving over 1,300 people within 24 hours. Sadly, his body was discovered the following day in nearby water by police divers. The family paid tribute to Noah, describing him as a “happy, cheeky, playful” child who loved to laugh. His mother encouraged other parents to “hold their children a little tighter and cherish every moment.”
An inquest into Noah’s death began on Friday in Ipswich, where it was revealed that he left a play area through a gap in the fence. Assistant coroner Jyoti Gill characterized the incident as a “very sad and tragic death” before adjourning the proceedings
