The Metropolitan Police have announced they will take another look at CCTV footage connected to the unresolved murder of Jill Dando, which occurred 27 years ago. The well-known BBC presenter and journalist was tragically killed by a single gunshot on her doorstep in Fulham in April 1999. Despite an extensive and highly publicized investigation, the case remains unsolved.
According to a spokesperson for the Met, new developments in CCTV enhancement technology have presented an opportunity to review the original video recordings from Putney Bridge train station. This footage includes an unidentified man who was seen running near the location of the shooting about 20 minutes after it happened.
Over the nearly three decades since Jill Dando’s death, the inquiry has undergone multiple reviews. These assessments have aimed to determine whether technological and forensic improvements could help move the investigation forward. The police emphasize that this recent examination is part of continuous efforts and should not be seen as a major breakthrough or the start of a new probe.
The Met Police also cautioned that the current review should not be construed as a fresh line of inquiry. They clarified that this is an element of ongoing investigative work, rather than a formal reopening of the case
