This Christmas, Liverpool will welcome an exciting new festive attraction as Skate St George’s takes over St George’s Plateau. The event will feature an open-air ice rink, alongside a Christmas market offering seasonal food and drinks, all set to bring holiday cheer to the heart of the city.
Visitors can freely explore the Christmas market and enjoy live performances throughout the festive period. While entry is free, those interested in skating or accessing selected activities can purchase tickets to customize their experience. The event will officially open on Saturday, 21 November, and run until Sunday, 3 January 2027, transforming one of Liverpool’s most recognisable locations into a winter wonderland.
Central to the event is a 675 square foot ice rink designed to welcome skaters of varying skill levels. Guests will skate under twinkling lights with a festive soundtrack enhancing the atmosphere throughout the day and night. The adjacent Christmas market will offer warming refreshments and an array of gifts and treats, giving families and friends plenty of options to enjoy the festive spirit, whether on the ice, enjoying live music, or simply taking in the joyful surroundings.
In addition to the main festivities, Skate St George’s will feature Winter Windows, a collaborative art project with Liverpool City Council and the Walker Art Gallery. Inspired by Charles Dickens’ *A Christmas Carol*, school pupils from across the Liverpool City Region will create stained-glass-style artworks. Twenty winning pieces will be illuminated and displayed throughout the event, offering thousands of visitors a unique artistic experience.
Underbelly’s Skate experience, well-known for its success at London’s Leicester Square and the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, is bringing this event to Liverpool for the first time. Tickets for the ice rink start at £11.50 for adults and £10 for children, with family packages available from £38. These can be purchased via the official website.
Illustrator Robert Ball, originally from Runcorn, has created the first artist’s impression revealing the festive transformation of St George’s Plateau. More details about the event’s programme will be shared in the coming weeks.
Councillor Harry Doyle, Cabinet Member for Health, Wellbeing, and Culture, expressed enthusiasm about the new addition: “Skate St George’s is an exciting addition to Liverpool’s Christmas programme which will bring a completely new festive experience to one of the city’s most iconic locations. Christmas in Liverpool is always special, but this year promises to be even bigger and better – Skate St George’s adds an extra layer of festive magic to our offer and gives residents and visitors another reason to come together and enjoy our city this winter. It’s also fantastic to be working with local schools on the Winter Windows art project, giving children the chance to get creative, embrace the festive spirit, and potentially see their designs displayed for hundreds of thousands of visitors to enjoy.”

Skate St George’s will be open daily from 10am to 10pm, from 21 November 2026 until 3 January 2027, offering residents and visitors a fresh and festive way to celebrate the holiday season in Liverpool
