UK prosecutors have formally requested the extradition of Andrew and Tristan Tate from the United States to face multiple serious charges, including rape and sex trafficking. The extradition applications were submitted last week to the US State Department, which will now examine them to ensure they comply with the terms of the extradition treaty between the US and the UK.
The Tate brothers, who hold dual citizenship in both countries, are confronted with a total of 59 charges in the UK. These encompass a range of allegations such as rape, sex trafficking, and offenses related to indecent images of a child. Both Andrew and Tristan firmly deny all accusations made against them. Initially, the Crown Prosecution Service brought 21 charges, but an additional 38 were added in July involving incidents dating from 2010 to 2017.
After the announcement of the new charges, US authorities detained the pair in July. They were recently denied bail in a Florida jail. According to legal deadlines, UK authorities had until 16 September to submit a complete extradition request. However, the brothers’ lawyer, Joe McBride, has criticized the British authorities for not including essential supporting documents necessary for the extradition process. McBride highlighted that neither his clients nor their legal team have received key materials such as the warrant or the charging documents, stating, “This cloak-and-dagger act speaks to the deception behind these accusations and to their weakness.”
The next steps following the State Department’s review will require the US Justice Department to forward the request to a court, which will make the ultimate decision on extradition. Meanwhile, the Tate brothers remain incarcerated in the US during this ongoing legal procedure. Official documentation from the US State Department lists Andrew Tate, 39, as wanted to face various charges including multiple counts of rape, trafficking for sexual exploitation, assault, and offenses related to child indecency and extreme pornography. Tristan Tate, 38, faces similar accusations of rape, assault, sex trafficking, and sexual assault. The UK Home Office declined to comment on the case, citing established policy. The former kickboxing champions, who have gained notoriety as controversial social media personalities, have lived primarily in Romania since 2017. They have been criticized for promoting misogynistic views online, which have resonated with a significant following of young men.
