Former employees of the company behind the popular Grand Theft Auto series gathered in a protest ahead of an employment tribunal where they are challenging their dismissals. These 23 individuals, who were fired last year for what the company described as “gross misconduct,” are now suing Rockstar Games for unfair dismissal.
The Independent Workers’ Union of Great Britain (IWGB) supports the claimants, arguing that the terminations were a consequence of the workers attempting to unionize and raising concerns about their working conditions through a private online forum. The employees were reportedly engaged in discussions related to their work on the anticipated Grand Theft Auto 6.
Rockstar Games, one of the major British video game developers, has stated that their disciplinary actions were taken because the staff shared confidential information, including details about game features, on a Discord channel that was not secured as private. The company insists that the dismissals, which affected 31 employees in the UK—mostly based at the Edinburgh headquarters—and three workers in Canada in October 2025, were unrelated to any union activity.
On the first day of the tribunal, the dismissed staff, accompanied by rally supporters, assembled outside the Glasgow Tribunals Centre. The hearing is anticipated to continue until mid-October, as the case progresses through the legal process
