A technical issue with the air traffic control provider Nats has disrupted departures from multiple UK airports, including Heathrow, Gatwick, and Stansted. At Heathrow, departures were initially halted around lunchtime before briefly resuming, only to face further intermittent interruptions later in the afternoon. Despite these problems, incoming flights continued to arrive as usual.
The disruption also impacted Gatwick, which confirmed it was affected alongside other airports such as East Midlands. Manchester Airport cautioned that some outbound flights might experience delays due to the ongoing issue. Passengers have been urged to check with their airlines for the latest information regarding their flights.
Nats issued a statement explaining that the problem was traced back to a fault in their flight processing system. Engineers are currently on-site, working urgently to restore normal service, though the issue remains unresolved. The organization acknowledged that while flights continue to depart and the airspace remains open, full recovery will take time. They apologized for the inconvenience and advised travelers to monitor flight updates via their website and social media channels.
Beyond the UK, airports in Dublin and Cork are also feeling the effects of the situation. Edinburgh Airport warned that its operations might be impacted as well.
