Authorities have detained three individuals following a multi-vehicle collision on the A8 near Edinburgh Airport on Monday, an incident that resulted in the death of a woman. The crash occurred around 09:25 near Newbridge, prompting a police response and investigation.
Among those arrested were two women, aged 23 and 19, along with a 32-year-old man, all in connection with the accident. Earlier reports indicated that police were attempting to locate the occupants of a grey Mercedes A250, who had left the crash scene on foot before officers’ arrival.
Tragically, a 58-year-old woman driving a Hyundai i30 lost her life at the scene. Four other individuals involved in the accident were transported to hospital for treatment but were discharged later. The collision involved four vehicles, including a grey Skoda Karoq and a Renault Capture, the latter of which was found overturned on its roof.
The A8 was closed for several hours to facilitate the investigation, reopening at 19:05. Sgt Mike Thomson expressed condolences: “Our thoughts remain with the family of the woman who died.” He also noted that “inquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.
