Nigella Lawson has received widespread acclaim for stepping into the role of judge on the upcoming series of The Great British Bake Off, which returns to Channel 4 later this month. She replaces Dame Prue Leith, who is departing after deciding to “work less and play more.” The new season will premiere on 22 September, with the first episode recently previewed by critics. Other contenders include Danni, 25, an HGV service centre administrator and nature forager; Gabe, 32, an artist and drag king from the West Midlands; and Gary, 67, a retired garment technologist with a passion for baking developed later in life.
Other participants include Molly, an accessibility coordinator and musical theatre enthusiast; Moyin, a 22-year-old political economy student and competitive sprinter who incorporates Nigerian flavors into his bakes; Mo, a law student with a love for blending Asian and British flavors; Nikki, an advertising post-producer known for her vibrant baking style; Shannon, a project planner with whimsical baking influences taught by her grandmother; Tom, a West Yorkshire hairdresser famous for his salted caramel brownies; and Yannis, a paediatric doctor challenging stereotypes while bringing sweetness to a busy hospital ward.
