A man managed to escape from kidnappers by jumping from a first-floor window, an incident that has led to five people being sentenced to prison. The victim was initially drawn to a property in Market Rasen in July 2025 due to “personal matters linked to a past relationship breakdown,” according to Lincolnshire Police.
During his captivity, the victim was subjected to repeated assaults, threats, and humiliation. Officers reported that the kidnappers not only tormented him but also recorded the abuse on their mobile phones, laughing while the ordeal took place. After spending the night in captivity, the victim was transported to a home in Lincoln, where security cameras captured him leaping into a tree before climbing down, running into the street, and flagging down a police car for help.
Law enforcement responded swiftly, with armed officers stopping two suspects in a car while making arrests at the Market Rasen property. The accused were subsequently sentenced at Lincoln Crown Court on 28 August. Brad’Lee Ranyard, 20, from Portland Street, Lincoln, received a nine-year sentence following his conviction for kidnap and a guilty plea to false imprisonment. Similarly, Jackson Nicholson, 25, of Lindsey Drive, Gainsborough, was given nine years after his conviction for kidnap and guilty pleas to false imprisonment and possession of a bladed weapon in public.
Three others were also handed custodial sentences: Craig Ranyard, 42, residing in Barsey Walk, Horncastle, was sentenced to five years and three months after pleading guilty to false imprisonment. Danielle Thompson, 38, of Lime Walk, Market Rasen, received a prison term of four years and nine months for the same offense, while Nathan Gladwell, 36, from Union Street, Market Rasen, was sentenced to three years and seven months after also pleading guilty to false imprisonment.
Detective Constable Liam Henderson described the case as a “sustained and deeply distressing ordeal” where the victim endured violence and threats while his captors seemed to find amusement in his suffering. He praised the victim’s bravery, noting, “The victim showed remarkable courage in seizing the opportunity to escape. The CCTV footage captures a desperate moment in which he quite literally risked everything to get away from those holding him captive.
