Holly Cham, a mother of two from Bootle, Merseyside, has expressed her shock and distress after CCTV footage revealed a stranger setting fire to her home. The incident, which occurred on the 24th of August, took place while Holly was away with her children. The recordings show a man emerging from the garage of the property just before flames began to engulf the house. Following the event, Merseyside Police arrested a 31-year-old man on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life. He has since been released on conditional bail as investigations continue.
The security footage captures the perpetrator leaving the garage area briefly before the fire breaks out, illuminating the walls of the house. After setting the fire, the man is seen walking down the street, knocking on neighbors’ doors before returning to Holly’s residence and knocking at the front door. Holly’s boyfriend, who was inside the property at the time, answered the door and also moved his car off the driveway, possibly preventing further damage or obstruction.
Holly described the aftermath as devastating. Her boyfriend, who was present during the fire, was woken by the stranger’s doorbell and discovered smoke entering the house through the bathroom window. He quickly alerted the fire service, who arrived to find the fire already spreading inside the home. The garage is heavily damaged, with its roof gone and windows broken due to the intense heat. The fire also caused significant smoke damage inside the house, particularly in Holly’s work area and the bathroom, leading to a loss of electricity and an estimated repair bill of up to £10,000.
Since the fire, Holly has temporarily relocated to her parents’ home with her two children, including her son Ethan, who has autism. She highlighted the emotional toll the incident has taken on her family, particularly on Ethan, who has struggled with the disruption to his home and routine. Holly is now faced with the challenge of rebuilding her small home-based business, which was completely destroyed in the blaze.
