On Wednesday, 9 September 2026, Disney Cruise Line will make a highly anticipated return to Liverpool Cruise Port, with special celebrations planned to mark the Disney Dream’s visit to the city. This arrival continues a tradition of Disney Cruise Line ships being welcomed warmly by both locals and visitors whenever they dock along Liverpool’s waterfront.
Liverpool Cruise Port, in partnership with Culture Liverpool, is encouraging the community to join together as the Disney Dream prepares to depart. Those attending will have the chance to see the ship set sail against the striking backdrop of Liverpool’s iconic waterfront. The event will serve as a reflection of the city’s long connection to the cruise industry, offering a memorable farewell to all those on board.
The ship is slated to leave the port at 7pm, with live music starting around 6pm on the Pier Head to enhance the atmosphere. Weather permitting, a brief fireworks display will take place as part of the sail-away festivities. Upon departure, the Disney Dream will move a short distance to hold position midriver in front of the Pier Head, where the sail-away moment will be highlighted before the cruise ship continues its voyage. Spectators are advised to gather at the Pier Head for optimal views, rather than at Princes Parade, which has previously been used for departures.
Councillor Harry Doyle, Cabinet Member for Health, Wellbeing and Culture, emphasized the significance of the occasion, noting the growth in cruise visits since Liverpool Cruise Port came under Global Ports Holding. He said, “This sail-away moment is another great example of partnership working, with Liverpool Cruise Port leading on the maritime operation whilst Culture Liverpool supports on event management.” Doyle expressed his excitement about providing a warm send-off for the internationally known vessel and encouraged locals to attend.
John Mawer from Liverpool Cruise Port remarked on the popularity of Disney Cruise Line vessels in the city. He stated, “Disney Dream is always warmly welcomed when she arrives on our waterfront. We wanted to create a simple opportunity for people to come together and show how much Liverpool appreciates these visits, while wishing the ship, her passengers and crew a very happy onward journey.”
While the Disney Dream will be docked at Liverpool Cruise Port throughout the day, public access to the ship will not be permitted at any time, with only passengers allowed on board. The gathering is designed as a brief and informal waterfront event. Temporary restroom facilities will not be provided on the Pier Head during the sail-away, but stewards will be available to direct visitors to nearby amenities if needed
