Liverpool City Council is urging its residents to enhance their readiness for emergencies by participating in the annual 30 Days 30 Ways campaign. This national initiative, running throughout September, unites over 400 organisations across the UK with the objective of fostering greater resilience and preparedness among individuals and communities.
The campaign provides practical suggestions, advice, and challenges aimed at encouraging small yet impactful actions that can significantly improve emergency response. It addresses a variety of potential emergencies, including severe weather conditions, power outages, flooding, and health crises like the COVID-19 pandemic. Its goal is to equip people with the knowledge and confidence required to handle unexpected situations effectively.
Organised by the Emergency Planning Society, the campaign represents a collaboration of emergency responders, local authorities, academic institutions, and other groups working to strengthen community resilience. In support of this, Liverpool City Council will be sharing valuable tips on its social media platforms throughout the month to help residents prepare for common issues encountered locally. Additionally, those interested can engage with daily challenges or gain insights from experts through weekly podcasts available on the official 30 Days 30 Ways website.
While the campaign focuses on educating the public, the Council itself remains actively prepared for emergencies at all times. As a member of the Merseyside Resilience Forum—which includes the police, fire and ambulance services, and key transport and utility organisations—the Council collaborates year-round to ensure swift, coordinated responses to any incidents affecting the community. Councillor Laura Robertson-Collins, Cabinet Member for Communities, Neighbourhoods and Streetscene, emphasized the importance of preparedness and shared, “Knowing what to do during a power cut, severe weather event, flood or other emergency can make a real difference.” She further highlighted the ongoing partnership efforts to maintain effective emergency plans and resources, stating that the campaign offers residents a valuable chance to learn practical ways to safeguard themselves and their communities
