Hip-hop group the Fugees recently reunited for the first time since 2021 at the Global Citizen Festival, joining singer Lauryn Hill on stage. The group performed hits such as ‘Killing Me Softly’, ‘Ready or Not’, and ‘Fu-Gee-La’, delighting the audience with their surprise appearance.
The Global Citizen Festival has been running for over a decade, with a history of landing in different countries such as Hamburg, Accra, and Mandela. The festival, which raises awareness to end extreme poverty, is an action platform with offices in Canada, South Africa, Nigeria, Australia, Germany, and the United Kingdom, alongside its main headquarters in New York. Its aim is to help defeat poverty, defend the planet and demand equity.
Interestingly, the last time the Fugees performed together was also at the Global Citizen Festival, New York in 2021. You can watch their performance below. Alongside their recent reunion, the band has planned a series of 11 shows across Canada and the United States over the next two months as part of the ‘Miseducation of Lauryn Hill’ album’s 25th anniversary tour. Hill will also be performing with Koffee when her tour hits Australia and New Zealand.
However, there is speculation that the Fugees’ reunion might be short-lived, given that musician Pras Michél has been found guilty of all 10 criminal conspiracy charges he faced in federal court. This could see him facing up to 20 years in prison, and is not the first time that his legal battles have interfered with Fugees performances; their reunion tour in 2022 was also cancelled due to Michel’s legal battles.
Despite the potential uncertainty, fans of the Fugees have a chance to see the beloved hip-hop group in action once again on their current tour
