British couple on honeymoon killed in helicopter crash on Greek island of Sifnos

A tragic helicopter accident occurred on the Greek island of Sifnos on Monday, resulting in the deaths of a young British couple and their pilot, according to Greek police. The victims have been identified as newlyweds Alexander Cromie and Marie Ebert, who were honeymooning in Greece. The private helicopter crashed just meters away from the intended landing pad, claiming the lives of the couple and the Greek pilot.

Reports indicate that the couple had taken the helicopter from Markopoulo, a village near Athens, heading towards the popular vacation destination of Sifnos. Following the incident, Greece’s aviation safety authority confirmed to the BBC that an investigation has been launched, with officials scheduled to visit the crash site on Tuesday to collect evidence and interview witnesses.

The UK Foreign Office, Greek authorities, and the aviation company involved have all been contacted for comments by the BBC. Alexander Cromie was employed by Blackstone, an asset management firm, which released a statement expressing their shock at the loss of their colleague and his wife. “Alex was beloved by everyone who knew and worked with him at Blackstone, and our thoughts and prayers are with his loved ones,” the company said.

Sifnos’ Deputy Mayor, Manolis Foundoulakis, who arrived at the scene shortly after the crash, described the remains of the helicopter as nearly destroyed. Local residents reported hearing unusual engine noises from the aircraft just before it crashed near their homes. Two victims were discovered within the wreckage while the third was found nearby. Firefighters quickly responded to a fire caused by the crash, managing to extinguish the flames by the evening of the same day
