Man charged with sharing asylum seeker addresses in Thetford

An individual employed by a company responsible for housing asylum seekers has faced charges of misconduct in public office due to the disclosure of property addresses. These addresses, located on St John’s Way, Bracken Road, Clover Way, Elm Road, and Chester Way in Thetford, Norfolk, became the focus of hostile crowds over a span of three nights earlier this month.

The accused, James Jobson, aged 62 and residing on Highlow Road in Costessey near Norwich, is an employee of Serco. He appeared before Ipswich Magistrates’ Court on Monday and was subsequently remanded in custody. His next court appearance is scheduled for 14 September at Norwich Crown Court.

According to the official charge, between 3 and 14 August, while serving as a public officer with Serco, Jobson deliberately and without valid reason committed misconduct, representing a breach of the public’s trust. Norfolk Police clarified that the allegation relates to the release of information about several addresses in Thetford, which were later the sites of multiple nights of violent disturbances.

A representative from Serco stated, “This matter is currently being handled by the police, and we are cooperating fully. As this relates to an ongoing legal process, it would be inappropriate to comment further.
