This event follows an earlier occurrence in the year when Lingwood in Norfolk reached 38.0°C on June 26. Such a phenomenon, with temperatures hitting 38°C twice in one year, has only happened once before, in 2022.
The widespread Met Office amber warning for extreme heat across much of England ended at midnight on Thursday. However, the hot weather is expected to persist, particularly in central and eastern England on Friday. Temperatures will continue to rise with extended sunshine, reaching between 29 and 34°C (84-93°F) in regions including the Midlands, Lincolnshire, East Anglia, and the southeast.
For many locations, Friday will represent the third straight day that temperatures surpass official heatwave thresholds. While the heat remains intense in some areas, other regions are expected to experience a slight cooldown. Northern and western parts of the UK will see cooler conditions moving in, though temperatures will generally stay above average for this time of year, with readings commonly in the low to mid-20s Celsius.
Weather in many areas will be dry with a blend of cloud and sunshine. However, some showers may occur, occasionally turning heavy and thundery in certain spots. Overall, while the extreme heat begins to lessen in parts of the country, much of the UK will still experience warmer-than-normal temperatures heading into the weekend
