After experiencing a period of exceptionally hot weather, the UK is expected to see temperatures decline this weekend, signaling the conclusion of the recent heatwave in several areas. The shift is primarily due to cooler northerly winds moving across the region, which will lead to a notable drop in temperatures, particularly in Scotland, Northern Ireland, and northern parts of England.
Despite this cooldown, much of the country—including southern England—will still experience warmer-than-average conditions. In fact, southern England has now recorded at least 12 consecutive days where temperatures met or exceeded the heatwave threshold, highlighting the persistence of the recent warmth.
Although temperatures are set to decrease, the outlook does not indicate any substantial rainfall. The presence of high pressure near the UK is expected to maintain the prevailing dry and sunny weather pattern into early next week, extending the dry spell seen throughout the month.
With the high-pressure system positioned to the west, northerly winds will begin to influence the weather over the weekend. For northern Scotland, this will result in maximum temperatures dropping by as much as seven degrees Celsius from Thursday to Saturday, effectively ending the heatwave there.
