Wimbledon and BBC Sport extend partnership to 2033

BBC Sport has secured its role as the broadcaster of Wimbledon until 2033 through a newly signed agreement with the All England Club. This deal guarantees that the prestigious tennis Grand Slam event will remain accessible to UK audiences on a free-to-air basis, available across BBC’s television channels, radio stations, and digital platforms.

Alex Kay-Jelski, the Director of BBC Sport, emphasized the importance of Wimbledon to viewers across the UK, calling it “truly special.” He expressed excitement about continuing the long-standing partnership with the All England Club well into the next decade. Kay-Jelski highlighted that the focus is not only on celebrating the event but also on evolving how it is presented, incorporating new technology, storytelling techniques, and fresh voices to deepen fan engagement across multiple platforms including TV, radio, online, and social media.

The upcoming Wimbledon tournament in 2026 will coincide with a significant milestone: the centenary of the BBC’s first broadcast of Wimbledon, dating back to 1927. Under the terms of the new contract, audiences can expect comprehensive live coverage throughout the Championships via BBC TV, BBC iPlayer, BBC Radio 5 Live, BBC Sounds, the BBC Sport website, and the app, along with robust presence on BBC Sport’s social media channels. The 2026 event will see reigning singles champions Jannik Sinner and Iga Swiatek return to defend their titles.

This year’s Wimbledon coverage marks a fresh creative and editorial direction for BBC Sport, introducing new expert voices and personalities, richer storytelling, and enhanced analytical content supported by advanced technology. The aim is to bring audiences even closer to the action across all broadcasting mediums. This announcement follows a surge in digital viewership, with the 2025 Championships reaching a record 69.3 million online requests collectively across BBC iPlayer, the Sport website, and app—surpassing previous records from 2023 and 2024 and underscoring the growing popularity of Wimbledon’s digital coverage
