The tragic death of Shanice Brookes, a young woman fatally shot outside a bar in Sheffield city centre, has deeply affected her family and community. Shanice, aged 30, was enjoying a night out at One Four One on West Street when the incident occurred in the early hours of Monday. According to South Yorkshire Police, she was an “innocent bystander” caught up in a senseless act of violence.

Shanice was a devoted mother to her young son, worked for a local charity, and was pursuing a university degree. Her family described her as “truly one of a kind,” emphasizing her warm-hearted nature and remarkable energy. They spoke of her as someone who brought love and support to all those around her, including being a cherished daughter, granddaughter, niece, cousin, friend, and godmother. To her cousins, Shanice was like a sister—always a source of laughter and comfort.

Following the shooting, three people were arrested in connection with the murder. Two suspects, a 30-year-old man and a 32-year-old woman, were taken into custody near Stockport, Greater Manchester, and remain under questioning. Another man arrested in Sheffield has since been released and is no longer considered a suspect. South Yorkshire Police have described the killing as “senseless” and urged anyone with information to come forward.

Detective Chief Inspector Andy Knowles commented on the incident, highlighting the heartbreaking loss: “Shanice was a young woman who was in the prime of her life and was simply enjoying a night out in the city centre over the bank holiday weekend.” He added, “We should all be able to go on nights out and know that we will come home safely.” The detective also made a plea to witnesses, stressing the devastating impact gun crime has on families and communities, and asking anyone with details to speak up, ensuring Shanice’s family and community begin to find justice for this tragic loss
