Badenoch 'flattered' by Nicki Minaj's Thatcher comparison

Kemi Badenoch has expressed her appreciation after rapper Nicki Minaj compared her to former Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher. The Conservative politician responded warmly to Minaj’s recent social media post, in which the rapper shared a clip of Badenoch speaking at Prime Minister’s Questions. Minaj wrote, “The UK is truly one of a kind. They will portray her in film & TV one day… just like they did with Margaret Thatcher.”

On Friday, Badenoch acknowledged the compliment, revealing her admiration for both Thatcher and Minaj. “It was very flattering to hear Nicki Minaj compare me to Margaret Thatcher, who is a heroine of mine, and in fact a heroine to all Conservatives,” Badenoch said. She also mentioned her fondness for one of Minaj’s popular tracks, Starships, adding, “I do like her song Starships, I’ve been dancing to it for a long time, as do my children.”

Nicki Minaj, regarded as one of the most influential rappers of all time, recently publicly expressed support for former US President Donald Trump, calling herself his “number one fan.” Earlier this year, Minaj even appeared onstage with Trump, proudly displaying her Trump “gold card” visa, a special fast-track visa introduced to expedite citizenship for wealthy immigrants. Although Minaj immigrated to the US as a child from Trinidad and Tobago, she has softened her previous criticisms of Trump’s hardline immigration policies and praised his leadership in recent years.

Badenoch’s remarks come shortly after the Conservative Party faced significant setbacks in recent elections across England, Scotland, and Wales. Despite this, there has been no speculation about Badenoch’s leadership ambitions, and she remains confident about the party’s prospects. Meanwhile, Thatcher’s legacy continues to be influential, with Meryl Streep having portrayed the UK’s first female prime minister in the 2011 film The Iron Lady
