Two men appear in court over fatal Newport crash

Two individuals have been brought before the court, facing murder charges following a fatal collision involving a BMW and a motorcycle last week. The crash took place on Aberthaw Road in Newport during the early hours of Thursday, when emergency responders arrived at the scene. Tragically, Jaydon Bowyer, aged 19, and Tashay Canoville, aged 16, who were riding the motorbike as driver and passenger respectively, were declared dead at the location.

On Monday, Terell Case, 18, from Sandpiper Way, Duffryn, Newport, along with Joshua Williams, 34, who has no fixed address, appeared at Newport Magistrates’ Court charged with murder in connection with the incident. Both men are scheduled to attend Cardiff Crown Court on the upcoming Tuesday for further proceedings. The hearing was attended by relatives of the victims, Bowyer and Canoville.

Detective Superintendent Steven Maloney addressed the situation, noting that specialist officers are providing support to the families of the deceased. He expressed condolences, saying, “Both Jaydon and Tashay’s families are being supported by specialist officers and our thoughts remain with them at this difficult time.” Additionally, he extended thanks to the local community for their cooperation during the ongoing investigation into the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.

The police have indicated that increased patrols will be visible in the area over the next few days as inquiries progress. It was also confirmed that two women from Newport, aged 24 and 40, who had been previously arrested on suspicion of murder, have been released without any charges. The investigation continues as authorities work to establish the full details of the fatal crash
