Man charged after car hits five people in Arnold town centre

A man has been formally charged with five counts of attempted murder after a vehicle struck a group of pedestrians in the town centre of Arnold, Nottinghamshire. The incident occurred around 01:10 BST on Saturday, when a Vauxhall Astra collided with several people in Market Place.

Among those injured, one man remains critically ill in hospital with life-threatening injuries, according to Nottinghamshire Police. The driver involved, identified as 40-year-old Duane Anthony from Marton Road, Bulwell, faces additional charges including aggravated vehicle taking, driving while disqualified, and driving without valid insurance. He is scheduled to appear at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court.

Detective Chief Inspector Ruby Burrow, who is leading the investigation, expressed sympathy for the victims and their families. She stated, “As we share today’s news, our thoughts remain with those affected by this incident, in particular the man who sustained life-threatening injuries.” DCI Burrow also emphasized the sensitivity of the case, urging the public to refrain from speculation that could hinder justice.

She further acknowledged the efforts made by the investigation team, remarking, “As our investigation continues, I would like to thank the entire investigation team, who worked around the clock throughout the weekend to help secure these charges.” The police taped off several areas in Arnold town centre during their inquiry into the serious collision
