Police detectives have initiated a murder inquiry following the discovery of an elderly woman’s body on a street in Glasgow. Elizabeth Colligan, aged 82, sustained critical injuries on Cardowan Road in the Carntyne district at approximately 4 a.m. on Saturday. Tragically, she was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities have made it clear that they are searching for a man considered “dangerous,” who was last seen near the location around the time Colligan was found. Police Scotland has emphasized the urgency of locating this individual as investigations continue. On Sunday evening, officers reported progress with a promising lead and said efforts are ongoing to uncover the full details surrounding the case.
Detective Inspector Gordon Walker extended condolences to Ms. Colligan’s family and friends, noting, “Our thoughts remain with Elizabeth’s family and friends during this very difficult time. We are continuing to offer them our support as the investigation progresses.” He also mentioned that police are conducting door-to-door inquiries and meticulously reviewing all available CCTV footage from the vicinity.
Chief Inspector Jon Watters addressed the concerns of local residents, stating, “We understand that this will be concerning for the local community, and we want to reassure the public that extensive inquiries are underway.” He further assured that police presence in the area would remain heightened in the days ahead and encouraged anyone with information or worries to come forward and speak with officers.
