In central London, early on Sunday morning, a woman was arrested following a serious incident in which a car struck multiple pedestrians. This event occurred on Argyll Street, near the bustling Oxford Circus area, and left one woman critically injured. Emergency services responded swiftly to the scene at around 04:30 BST.
According to the Metropolitan Police, a 30-year-old woman was transported to hospital in critical condition after sustaining severe injuries. Alongside her, a man in his 50s suffered what police described as life-changing injuries and was also taken to hospital for treatment. A third woman, in her 30s, received minor injuries and was treated accordingly.
The driver, identified as a 29-year-old woman, was apprehended immediately at the scene. She faces multiple charges including attempted murder, grievous bodily harm, dangerous driving, and drink driving. Authorities have confirmed that the incident, which happened on a street near the London Palladium theatre in Soho, is not being investigated as a terrorism-related act.
Detective Chief Inspector Alison Foxwell has appealed to the public for any information that could assist the ongoing investigation. She acknowledged that although the event occurred in the early hours when some venues remained open, many people may have witnessed the collision or other relevant activity leading up to it.
