Man shot by Met Police after making threats to kill

A man in north-east London is currently in critical condition after being shot by Metropolitan Police officers who forcibly entered a property in Walthamstow. The officers were responding to reports of a man wielding a firearm and making threats to kill at an address in Stow Crescent. Trained negotiators were brought to the scene before officers eventually entered the property and fired their weapons around 14:00 BST. Inside the property, the officers discovered what they believed to be a gun, according to the Met.

Following the incident, the Department of Professional Standards will be investigating the actions of the officers involved, with the case eventually being referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC). The man who was shot received initial treatment from police medics and the London Ambulance Service at the scene. The area has been cordoned off, and the public has been advised to steer clear while investigations are ongoing.

In response to the shooting, an IOPC spokesperson stated that an independent investigation had been initiated into the actions of the Met Police during the incident in Walthamstow. The man who was shot was taken to the hospital following the altercation, as confirmed by the IOPC. At the scene, investigators have already begun the post-incident procedure to gather evidence for their inquiry into the police’s actions
