Liverpool City Council has recently received a significant increase in funding to address the issue of rough sleeping and homelessness in the city. The Government has announced that the rough sleeping prevent and recovery grant for Liverpool will nearly double from £1.7 million to £3.1 million. This funding will support various additional services aimed at preventing and reducing rough sleeping, including plans to safeguard rough sleepers during the winter months, providing more accommodation for individuals with complex needs, and facilitating the transition into supported housing.
Furthermore, there will be additional funding of £126k allocated to assist children experiencing homelessness, as well as £54k designated for drug and alcohol treatment services. Council Leader, Cllr Liam Robinson, expressed satisfaction with the additional funding from the Government, recognizing the persistent challenges faced in addressing homelessness in the city. He emphasized the importance of the strong network of support organizations already in place and highlighted the council’s commitment to implementing a comprehensive plan to expedite housing solutions, minimize time spent in temporary accommodations, and increase the availability of stable, long-term tenancies
