Sky Glass customers complain as TVs won't turn on


Reports of technical problems affecting Sky Glass TVs and Sky streaming services started to emerge on Thursday evening with hundreds of customers experiencing issues. Many users found it impossible to get their devices to work properly or even switch on. The number of reports of issues on outage monitor site Downdetector had risen substantially to unbelievable heights on Thursday evening alone. Furthermore, many customers were still complaining of the same issues with their Sky Glass televisions by the following Friday morning.

Sky has since issued a statement apologizing for the inconvenience and indicating knowledge of ongoing difficulties. A spokesperson stated that such customers should manually try to restart their devices by following the guidelines provided on the Sky website. A frustrated Sky Glass customer reached out to the company’s assistance department on social media, complaining that their television had been out of commission for nearly 11 hours. Despite the fundamental issues that subscribers were complaining about, they expressed their support for Sky and their services.

Sky Glass is a leading and advanced smart TV that does not rely on any conventional TV antennas or satellite dishes. Instead, it functions completely on broadband and allows customers to stream content directly to their device. This approach has proved very popular with subscribers, but it appears that a recent upgrade by Sky may have introduced some incompatibility issues, leading to some devices becoming “bricked” or damaged.

Some users on Sky’s community forum expressed their regrets about exchanging their conventional televisions for Sky Glass, while some even missed out on watching popular live TV shows. Responders highlighted similar issues affecting the Sky Stream “puck” that provides access to popular apps such as Netflix and Disney+. Sky is yet to provide an official response announcing the cause of the problem or a timeline for resolving it
