Daisy Edgar-Jones and Kingsley Ben-Adir to star in Cat On A Hot Tin Roof

Daisy Edgar-Jones, star of Normal People, Twisters, and Where The Crawdads Sing, has landed a role in the forthcoming eight-week run of Cat On A Hot Tin Roof at the Almeida theatre in London. Set to take place from 10 December, the performance will see Edgar-Jones alongside Lenny James, best known for his work on Line of Duty and The Walking Dead, and Kingsley Ben-Adir, who most recently featured in Barbie and played Bob Marley in One Love, a biopic. The Almeida announced several other productions on Friday, including works featuring Michael Shannon, star of film and television, and Ruth Wilson, who has appeared in The Affair and Luther and portrayed Emily Maitlis in A Very Royal Scandal.

Cat On A Hot Tin Roof, written by Tennessee Williams in 1955, depicts the story of a family gathering to honour the birthday of the head of the household, Big Daddy. However, the family is in turmoil behind the scenes. Themes explored in the Pulitzer Prize-winning play include control, power struggles, and desire. Albion, a play directed by Mike Bartlett that also ran at the Almeida in 2020, featured Edgar-Jones in a leading role in the early days of her career. Since her breakthrough turn in Normal People with Paul Mescal, she has become well-known during the COVID-19 pandemic.

While she was one of many actors who participated in the recent Red Rabbit White Rabbit production of Soho Place, Cat On A Hot Tin Roof marks Edgar-Jones’s significant return to the stage. The news comes after the actress’s inclusion in Forbes’ “30 Under 30” list of European stars for the performing arts earlier this year. Other components of the Almeida’s new season include a brand-new play by Chris Bush, entitled Otherland, which portrays a pair trying to disentangle themselves during the course of a break-up. Tudor England provides the backdrop for the production 1536, while Rhinoceros depicts the impact of a new illness that threatens humanity
