Ali Bastian: Former Hollyoaks star diagnosed with breast cancer


Ali Bastian, who rose to fame in the British soap opera Hollyoaks, has been diagnosed with breast cancer. The 42-year-old actress said she found a lump while breastfeeding and was diagnosed with stage two cancer. “It was a total shock,” she said in an interview. Bastian is receiving chemotherapy and will also undergo radiotherapy and a single mastectomy. She is also seeing a psychologist who specializes in cancer treatment.

Bastian is based in Ireland and has two daughters with her husband David O’Mahony, Isabella, 19 months old, and Isla, four. She is already focusing on a comeback to show business despite her diagnosis. She wrote on Instagram that she was watching a former co-star from Hollyoaks on TV and desperately yearned to participate in a scene herself.

Breast cancer symptoms, according to NHS, include a lump or an area of thickened tissue, a change in breast size or shape, and a rash or redness around the nipple. If breast cancer is suspected, a medical professional should be consulted.

Bastian has informed her daughter of the diagnosis in age-appropriate terms. She told OK! Magazine that they told her that mommy “is going to take some strong medicine that is making it better and that Mummy’s going to have a crazy haircut for a bit, and it will make me tired sometimes.” The actress encouraged other women to check themselves regularly and promptly see a doctor when they identify something that concerns them
