To celebrate the 10th anniversary of their debut album, Royal Blood has shared a teaser of a documentary. The documentary features black-and-white footage of Mike Kerr and Ben Thatcher during their sessions recording their 2014 self-titled debut LP. The teaser also includes a link that directs you to their official YouTube channel, which features a video titled “Shouting Through The Letter Hole” that is set to premiere next Thursday (August 15) at 2 pm. The band played a string of headlining gigs across the UK in June to celebrate the anniversary of their first album.
Speaking to NME at Download Festival about looking back at their debut album after 10 years, Kerr said, “It’s been good looking back. We’ve been prepping for these anniversary shows coming up but to be honest, there are only two or three songs off the debut record that we don’t play live pretty regularly. It really is still an album that we live and breathe every day.” Despite the years that have passed, Kerr believes that the album feels very similar to how it did back then.
The duo released their fourth and most recent studio album, ‘Back To The Water Below’, in September 2020. NME gave the LP a four-star review saying that the album “feels like a return for Royal Blood”. The review added, “Honouring their gut, as [frontman Mike] Kerr said they did in the studio, has manifested fertile results for their band… There’s power in trusting your instincts, and ‘Back To The Water Below’ backs that assertion.”
Royal Blood has come a long way since their debut album, with the band stating that so much has changed for them since then. However, when it comes to their music, nothing has changed. It is clear that the duo is still taking inspiration from their original music as they continue to perform and create new work. Fans eagerly await the release of their upcoming documentary
