House of the Dragon star Ewan Mitchell has become a fan favorite for his portrayal of Aemond, prince of the Targaryen dynasty. As the second season of the Game of Thrones prequel series comes to a close, Mitchell addressed fans’ criticisms that the finale lacked progress. Some viewers were disappointed by the unresolved conflict, but Mitchell reassured fans that the wait for the next season will be worth it.
Mitchell sat down with NME to discuss his character and his thoughts on the show. He explained that Aemond’s character is always on the move, creating a sense of excitement whenever he’s on screen. Mitchell acknowledged that there were slow moments in the season, but he loves exploring his character and diving into the conflict between the relationships shared by the council table.
When asked about his on-screen character’s popularity, Mitchell revealed that he does not have social media but has received plenty of fan mail. He said the feedback has been “well articulated” and “badass.”
Mitchell also shared that he chose not to watch Game of Thrones when he was cast because he didn’t want to subconsciously affect his performance. However, he hopes to watch the series when House of the Dragon is finished. Mitchell expressed an interest in meeting George R.R. Martin to discuss his character more in-depth.
Looking ahead to season three, Mitchell hinted that the Targaryens will be fighting amongst themselves. He suggested that the disconnect between the common folk and Dragonlords is not as significant as previously assumed. Mitchell believes the upcoming season will be darker as the Targaryens’ fates hang in the balance.
House of the Dragon’s second season is now available to purchase digitally and available for pre-order on 4k Ultra HD Blu-ray and DVD
