Roger Clarke, the actor behind Red Dead Redemption 2’s Arthur Morgan character, revealed the most challenging aspect of doing motion capture for the game in a recent interview. According to Clarke, crouch running was the hardest activity to perform as Arthur. Although fighting, shooting and horse riding were demanding, crouching while running was a real workout, and Clarke had to do it for a few days. The actor said that after three days, his thighs were killing him.
Clarke added that Rockstar is committed to making games with close attention to detail. The company gave Clarke a lot of control over Arthur that he was grateful for. For this reason, the character walks and rubs his nose like Clarke does. Clarke also revealed that the hardest acting challenge was portraying Arthur’s sickness and weariness while ensuring it didn’t slow down the gameplay. Despite all the hard work involved, Clarke went on to win the 2018 Game Award for Best Performance for portraying Arthur Morgan’s character with depth, sincerity and tenderness.
