Green Day recently caught up with NME on the red carpet for the BRIT Awards 2024 where they talked about their friendship with Courtney Love and potential London shows. The punk rock band also presented the Best British Group Award at the ceremony, and were humorously referred to as the “British Busted”. Green Day drummer Tré Cool expressed their excitement to attend the event and witness other people throw up.
Armstrong and Love recently performed two surprise intimate shows across London as part of The Coverups. Love joined Armstrong on stage and performed David Bowie’s “Suffragette City”, Cheap Trick’s “Surrender” and Hole’s “Celebrity Skin”. When asked about a potential collaboration with Love in the future, Armstrong said that fans will have to wait and see. The Green Day frontman and Tré Cool also expressed their surprise that their recent album ‘Saviors’ had hit Number One in the UK, stating that “when you’ve been at it this long, you hope for the best.”
Fans can expect to hear classic albums ‘American Idiot’ and ‘Dookie’ in full during the ‘Saviors’ tour, which marks the 20th and 30th anniversaries of the albums, respectively. Green Day hinted that they may announce more surprise shows before their UK tour dates.
‘Saviors’, the band’s 14th studio album, was released in February and received a glowing four-star review from NME, who described it as Green Day’s “best work since ‘American Idiot” and an “act of defiance met with a shrug; a band saying, ‘We’re still here and we’re still f*cked’
