Boygenius, the trio featuring Lucy Dacus, Phoebe Bridgers, and Julien Baker, has won their first ever BRIT Award for International Group Of The Year. The trio was up against tough competition including Foo Fighters, Blink-182, Paramore, and Gabriels. The prestigious award was presented in a video message, where Dacus thanked Polydor for making it possible and shouted, “Long live Boygenius!” Bridgers also thanked the fans for the support that led to the award.
The award comes after a successful 12 months for Boygenius, during which they won three Grammy Awards for Best Rock Performance, Best Rock Song, and Best Alternative Music Album. The album that earned them these awards, ‘The Record,’ was named one of the best albums of 2023. In a five-star review, NME called the album “the instant classic we were hoping for.”
Dacus took to Facebook to post a reflection on their massive success over the past year, thanking everyone who cared about Boygenius as much as they did. She also mentioned the band’s concert highlights, including Julien throwing birthday cake into the audience and Phoebe crowdsurfing. Dacus ended with a loving message to Bridgers and Julien, saying she will love them until the end of time.
Following their BRIT Award win, Boygenius announced their hiatus at a secret show in LA, with fans quoting them saying, “We’re going away for the foreseeable future. This is our last show, and we’re feeling it.” The band likes the idea of their future remaining “a surprise,” and Baker said she prefers the band as something they can retreat to, making it sacred instead of something they have to constantly grind on.
‘The Record’ marked a significant achievement for Boygenius, earning them their first UK Number One album. Fans and critics alike have praised the trio for their music and collaborative creativity, making their win for International Group Of The Year well-deserved
