Three young men have lost their lives in a crash that occurred between an Audi A1 car and a bus in Coedely, Rhondda Cynon Taf. The incident took place at around 7 PM GMT on Monday on Elwyn Street. The police have confirmed that the two eighteen-year-olds and one nineteen-year-old died instantly while two other young men who were also in the Audi were rushed to the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff, having sustained life-threatening injuries.
The street where the collision took place is meant for a maximum of 20mph (32km/h) speed, and two other people were confirmed to be treated for minor injuries. Police are appealing for witnesses as the road has reopened following the crash. Seven ambulances were sent to the scene by the Welsh Ambulance Service, who confirmed that four individuals were taken to University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff, and an additional person was taken to Royal Glamorgan Hospital for further treatment.
Dan Owen-Jones, Rhondda Cynon Taf’s deputy mayor, and one of the first people at the scene shared his thoughts on the tragic event. He said that he was working on traffic control while lots of family and friends showed up at the same time. Alex Davies-Jones, Labour MP for Pontypridd, expressed her grief, saying that it is devastating for the community, and everyone knows the families of the affected individuals, her heart goes out to them.
First Minister Mark Drakeford, whose thoughts are with the families and friends of those involved in the tragic incident in Coedely, thanked all the first responders. John Mayes, a local resident, believes that fatal accidents have become too frequent on the street, and everyone in the neighborhood is tired of it.
