HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) emphasized its commitment to upholding strict standards and confirmed that it treats any breaches with utmost seriousness. The department stated that it has strong procedures in place to address concerns and takes decisive action when those standards are not maintained. Following an internal disciplinary review, the individual involved was dismissed and ceased employment with HMRC in February 2025.
During an interaction with an undercover BBC reporter, the individual, identified as Webster, openly described himself as a “white totalitarianist” with a vision of a future where white people are the default race and other races face extinction. While hiking with members of the group Patriotic Alternative, Webster admitted to seeking conflict and claimed he would have violently attacked a group of non-white men had they come near him. This exposure led to a police investigation, which linked Webster to multiple social media profiles predominantly on the platform X.
Webster was arrested in September 2025 on charges of inciting racial hatred. Authorities confirmed ownership of the linked accounts through data retrieved from his phone and computer. Despite pleading guilty in July, several of his offensive posts remained visible on X weeks after his admission of guilt. Among these posts, some condemned figures such as Adolf Hitler and the Nazis while advocating violence against prominent politicians, although these particular messages were not part of the formal charges. Webster also self-identified as a “genocidal racist monster” in one post and expressed a desire for genocidal acts against various racial groups, declaring, “the next Hitler will be a man like me!” After BBC alerted X to these posts, they were removed, though the company declined to comment publicly.
Further investigation revealed an active Substack account linked to Webster, where he continued to discuss his arrest and disclose private aspects of his life. The account contained additional inflammatory remarks on race, including a call for the “total genetic extinction” of South Asian people. Some of these communications were posted despite bail conditions strictly limiting his internet use and forbidding social media contact. Following BBC’s notification, most content was taken down, though one post included in Webster’s charges remained accessible. Substack did not provide any further response.
At Warwick Crown Court, it emerged that Webster had been referred to the government’s Prevent programme four times, a scheme designed to stop individuals from engaging in terrorism.
